What is a Meetup?

We hold daily (most days) Zoom sessions, led by the retreat leaders, where you can come find out more about the retreat, get to know us, learn what happens on a retreats, what we do and how we keep you safe. You can ask question in the chat and with other sisters. It's so much fun...and you don't need to participate if you don't want...just watch and enjoy :)

We ask anyone who doesn't know anything about Sisters Getaway but wanting to join OR just wants to know more about the retreats...to come join a Meetup. If you are a seasoned 'Sisters Getaway'er or you know about the trip through a friend then send us a message

Meetup FAQs

Who will be hosting the Meetup

Abdiya, the founder of Sisters Getaway always hosts the Meetups and this time she is with Yaz. Sometimes the other leaders join, past retreat goers, faces you might recognise. It's a lot of fun :)

Do I need to speak?

No, cameras and microphones will be off...and we won't suddenly ask you to say hello...or tell a funny story about yourself, don't worry! 😅 You CAN use the chatbox to chat with other sisters and ask us anything using the private messenger on the live.

Will anyone see me? Are cameras on?

No, as mentioned above, cameras and microphones will be OFF. So if you are still in bed, in your pajamas...don't worry....just relax and watch :)

What time are they?

We run multiple daily Meetup times to accomodate as many different timezones and daily routines. InshaAllah one of them works for you. You will be able to choose the time that best suits YOU. The time should be in your timezone.

Do you have replays?

Normally no...which is why we always encourage you to find a time/day that works and make sure you clear your diary. We all know what happens....life gets in the way and unless we set a time and stick to it, it never happens. That replay will never get watched ;) So do whatever you have to do to make it!

Does joining a meetup commit me at all to joining a retreat?

No, joining a Meetup does NOT commit you in any way to joining a retreat. We will not be selling you anything on the Meetup. If you decide you would love to join after attending the Meetup, then 100% we can help find the perfect retreat for you :)

A week away, with a group of like-minded sisters, somewhere beautiful, where you can relax, have fun, explore and connect. Fully inclusive. You don't have to organise, cook, clean or take care of anyone. The perfect week away :)

We organise EVERYTHING from start to finish...so you can simply enjoy the BEST week.

  • We help you with ALL your flight arrangements (finding and booking)

  • We bring together like-minded sisters wanting to get away when you do.

  • When possible (if you want), we will pair you up with other sisters travelling from your area so you can travel together

  • Introduce you to all the other women joining.

  • Support you thoughout your journey

  • Pick you up from the airport

  • Find the most incredible private retreat centre

  • Organise ALL tours and excursions

  • Cook all your meals for you (it's fully inclusive)

  • Ensure there are at least 3 leaders with you at ALL times for your safety and enjoyment.

For this retreat with Yaz we are going to Marrakech, Morocco from June 9-15th. If you are interested in other dates or our other location, Granada, Spain, then please sign up for the meet-up and book a call with our team there!

Who are we?

We are a team of women who love travelling and are dedicated to helping other Muslim women get away from the 9-to-5 and enjoy the most wonderful experiences travelling and meeting like-minded women!

How did it start?

Honestly...? Just 2 muslim women wanting to get away!! (that's us)

Our story...

#1. burnt-out!

We had both got to the point where we were feeling burnt-out. It doesn't matter whether it's kids, work, family, looking after the home...you just get to that point where you NEED to get away!

#2. muslim values...?

There are SO many places you "can" go....but finding somewhere relaxing, that at the same time respects your values as Muslim women was hard. If you want to go swimming....there aren't many female only times. If you go all-inclusive, they look at you weirdly when you ask if the chicken and pork were cooked together.

#3. something for us

We also wanted to do something for our own self-development. Relax, sure....but also to feel like we have grown or experienced something new. We weren't looking for a "religious" retreat as such, but it would be nice to learn about Islamic history and culture...and strengthen our iman. We didn't find any "packages" that enabled us to do this.

#4. do it yourself

After weeks of unsuccesful Google searches, we decided to put everything together ourselves...something relaxing, halal food, private pool, beautiful views, respects our Muslim values, private enough to wear what we wanted without worry about who was watching us!

#5. too expensive :(

For the 2 of us, the quotes were CRAZY expensive, so we took to Instagram to see who out there is the big wide web would be up for joining us....expecting maybe 1 or 2 people max, which would still save a lot of money.

#6. sold out in 24 hours...

The response we had on Instagram was SO BIG that we filled up the retreat centre ourselves...in 24 hours (less than that in fact). 20 of us, all wanting the same thing....relaxation, fun, expereince something new...and hanging out with like-minded sisters.

#7. met on Zoom...

A month before, we have never spoken to each other...yet here we are, on Zoom, laughing, chatting, joking and getting SO excited to meet in person, in Spain!!!

#8. slightly nervious....ok, scared!

It's scary, travelling to another country to meet 20 women you've only met on Zoom. But we all got on SO well....the Whatsapp groups was on fire! 🔥 I don't think anyone WASN'T nervious, but nervious excited I think. Ellie and I actually travelled together...and so did some of the other sisters.

#9. best week ever...

It's hard to describe how wonderful the week was. I don't know what was better....the stunning views of the muontains, the delicious halal food, the wonderful meals chatting and laughing over the most silly things. The beautiful Islamic history and culture, the walks, the private swimming pool, the yoga sessions.....or the company! Women you had never met before....5 minutes later you are sharing things you've never told anyone!

#10...becoming leaders!

I think it was day 2 of the retreat that we looked at each other and said...."we need to do more of these." So many of our retreat goers have now become leaders and now facilitating others to come and experience what they did.

2 year later...

We have run over 30 retreats, taking nearly 600 women away on the most wonderful weeks. We have expanded retreats into Morocco and the UK, with over 15 wonderful women leading the retreats from all over the world. We have enabled women who never thought it possible to travel, to have the best week of their lives...and return home feeling rejuvenated. We have met the most amazing women and formed SO many lifelong freindships. It has been a true blessing Alhamdulilah.
